Yousef Tizabi

Dr. Tizabi received his B.A. in Physics from University of California at Berkeley in 1970 and his Ph.D. in Physiology from Georgetown University in 1974. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Clinical Sciences at NIMH/NIH, he joined Howard University in 1976 where he is currently Professor of Pharmacology.

Dr. Tizabi is an educator an avid researcher. He has near 150 peer reviewed publications and has delivered numerous presentations at national and international meetings. He has participated in NIH study section and has been a reviewer for numerous scientific journals including Neuropsychopharmacology, Molecular Psychiatry and Lancet. He has trained a number of Masters, Ph.D. and Postdocs and has enjoyed continuous funding by NIH, Pharmaceuticals and other sources. He sits on editorial boards of several Journals including Neurotoxicity Research. He is the recipient of one US patent. 

Dr. Tizabi’s main areas of research involve elucidation of neurobiological substrates of mental disorders including depression and drug addiction (alcohol and nicotine). He is also keen in understanding neurodegenerative mechanisms and exploring novel interventions, particularly in relation to Parkinson’s disease.
