Prof. Lali Shanshiashvili
Lali Shanshiashvili has been an associate professor at Ilia State University (at the Institute of Chemical Biology) since 2006. In 1982 she became a Tbilisi State University student, graduating in 1987. She continued research at the Institute of Physiology of Georgian academy of Sciences in Tbilisi (1987-2013), was engaged in biochemistry. Lali Shanshiashvili got the degree of a candidate of biological sciences in 1991 and the degree of a doctor of sciences in 2004. 2000-2008 she had collaborations with the Laboratory of Surface Biochemistry, University of Basel, Switzerland and Centre for Molecular Recognition, Collegium Basilea (Institute of Advanced Study), Basel, Switzerland. Since 2000 she is academic Secretary of the Journal of Biological Physics and Chemistry (JBPC); Vice-president of Georgian Biochemical Society; FEBS member – ambassador of FEBS education committee; Executive Secretary of Georgian Neuroscience Association.
Her main research interest lies in the study of the effect of myelin basic protein charge isomers and their peptide fragments on the primary glial cells; macrophage plasticity; glutamate receptors; protein-lipid interactions; apoptosis; the metabolic imbalance of immune cells during genetic diseases, in particular during cystic fibrosis.
